BRILLIANT FIRE

In 2008 Bemis took their unique sound to the Stokes Bay festival, the Hampshire Green Fair and the Longest Day festival in Petersfield & they won the award for Best folk/roots act in the Portsmouth News "Guide" Entertainment awards.

Developing a list of significant artists they have supported, and lending their voices to other artists' projects, Bemis are well known, valued musicians on the local music scene.

Bemis are Gareth Howells and Ritchie Leo.
 Two friends who have pooled their collective experience to bring out their own take on the "acoustic duo" format.
Both play guitar, both have decades of playing behind them, and have developed a reputation as writers, performers and collaborators.

Over the past couple of years Bemis have performed at a wide variety of venues, from the pubs of Hampshire, to a 5 week stint at a beach club in Phuket, Thailand. Including regular performances at the Halfmoon Putney, the Brook in Southampton, the Wedgewood Rooms and the Kings Theatre in Portsmouth.

During their live sets, Bemis play a wide range of other material besides the long list of songs they’ve written themselves.
These range from rock n roll songs from the fifties; acoustic rock from musicians such as Crosby, Stills & Nash, and Simon & Garfunkel; Pop artists lsuch as the Beatles, the Everly Brothers, Prince, Peter Gabriel and David Gray;  and artists from the Roots tradition such as Richard Thompson, London Wainwright, John Denver and Tracy Chapman.  

On Thursday 12th March 2009,
Bemis performed at Bournemouth Folk Club, Centre Stage as special guests of
Headliner Pete Christie.

new track 'Sisyphus', where Bemis recount
the story of a king who was cursed to
roll a huge boulder up a hill, only to
watch it roll down again, and to
repeat this throughout eternity.
