DIDDY WAH DIDDY...

David McKenzie is Sugarhand - National Resonator and Acoustic Guitar, Mandolin and Harmonica.

Over the years David McKenzie has played in many bands and travelled far and wide on his musical journey. Many nights were spent in the nightclubs and music venues of Germany and Denmark.

Originally from the village of Glamis in the county of Angus Scotland, it has been an interesting and varied trip of musical styles from school cover bands through to acoustic songwriter, Bluegrass Mandolin - appearing 4 times at Guildtown Bluegrss Festival either solo or with his band Strictly Bluegrass and various performances at many other music festivals throughout the 80's and 90's to the present day.

Now a dedicated player of Blues and Ragtime Guitar, David has travelled full circle back to the roots of the music of the 20th century.

Be it Bessie Smith, Blind Blake, Big Bill Broonzy, Muddy Waters through to Canned Heat, JJ Cale and Leon Redbone, if it has rhythm, he plays it with heart and soul.

Other musical ventures involve David as the lead guitarist and vocalist for popular rootsy-rocky-country-band Bang Zooms.

Sugarhand (chosen for google searches, not to mention there is another David MacKenzie playing blues) has shared stages with many great names, ranging from Stefan Grossman, Han Theesink, Carolina Shout, Martin Simpson, Dougie MacLean, Neil and Calum MacColl, to performing in a band with KT Tunstall.
